The Geauga Park District Offers an Endless List of Things for Kids to Do and Explore in the Parks this Winter!

Timbertots: Big Birds! (Ages 3-5 w/adult)

Friday, February 16th, 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. & 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., Bass Lake Preserve, Lodge

Saturday, February 17th, 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., The Rookery, Great Blue Heron Lodge – Let’s explore the amazing lives of eagles, owls and hawks…oh my! Partially outdoors, weather permitting, so please dress accordingly. Also February 17. Partially wheelchair/stroller accessible. Registration required.

X-treme Winter Fun Day (Ages 12-17)

Monday, February 19th, 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., Orchard Hills Park – Spend the afternoon of your school day off having an “X-treme” amount of winter fun outside with friends. Try snowshoes, bring your sled for a fun downhill ride, learn about winter wildlife, and warm up by a fire with free hot cocoa and s’mores. Outdoors, so please dress for the weather. This is a drop-off program and all participants must have a signed waiver. Not wheelchair/stroller accessible. Registration required.

Nature Explorers: All About Birds (Ages 6-7 & 8-11)

Saturday, February 24th, 12:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m., Swine Creek Reservation, Lodge – Explorers view mist netting and bird banding, play bird games and head outdoors in search of birds and bird evidence. Indoors and out, so please dress for the weather. Children should be dropped off by 12:30 p.m. and picked up by 2:30 p.m. at the lodge. Signed waivers required. Partially wheelchair/stroller accessible. Registration required.

Timbertots: Maple Sugar Time! (Ages 3-5 w/adult)

Thursday, March 8th, 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. & 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 10th, 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. – Swine Creek Reservation, Woods Edge Parking Area – Collecting sap with small buckets and visiting the sugar house are some of the fun things we’ll do to learn about how maple syrup comes from maple trees! Entirely outdoors, so please dress for the weather. Snow boots encouraged. Also March 10. Partially wheelchair/stroller accessible. Registration required.

Scout Day: Brownie Girl Scouts Outdoor Art Creator Badge

Saturday, March 10th, 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., The West Woods, Nature Center – Join us for a fun morning celebrating art in Nature working on the Outdoor Art Creator Badge. We’ll cover requirements 1, 2 and 4. If you’re able, bring a camera or phone to complete Nature photography requirements. Partially wheelchair/stroller accessible. Registration required.

Scout Day: Boy Scout Nature Merit Badge

Saturday, March 10th, 1:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m., The West Woods, Nature Center – Let’s work on the Nature Merit Badge. We’ll cover requirements 1, 2, 3 and part of 4. A merit badge counselor will be on site. Bring your own merit badge worksheets and Blue Card. Partially wheelchair/stroller accessible. Registration required.

Egg Hunt: Nature Style

Saturday, March 24th, 1:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., The West Woods, Nature Center – Celebrate spring by following clues in and outdoors to hidden eggs and fun facts. Find all the eggs on the hunt and be rewarded with a fun prize! Two levels of scavenger hunt cards will be available anytime during program hours: kids 5 and under, kids 6 and up. Partially wheelchair/stroller accessible.

Grandparents in the Park: Spring Break

Wednesday, March 28th, 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m., Big Creek Park, Cherry Room – Grandparents and their grandchildren are invited out for a day of fun indoor and outdoor Nature activities for all ages. Please bring a snack to share. Partially outdoors, weather dependent, so please dress for the weather. Registration is required. Wheelchair/stroller accessible.
