Frohring Meadows Snowshoe or Hike

Sunday, December 10th, 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Frohring Meadows – Snowshoe through the meadow and forest seeking evidence of wildlife, or hike if there’s insufficient snow. Please dress accordingly, wearing waterproof footwear for wet, muddy or snowy off-trail conditions. Ages 10+. Registration required.

The Sky Tonight Planetarium Show

Sunday, December 10th, 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Sunday, December 31st, 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Observatory Park, Robert McCullough Science Center – Join us for a planetarium presentation about what to watch for in the night sky each week. Building open house 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. If the weather permits, also get a chance to view the sun using our safe, solar-viewing equipment. Wheelchair/stroller accessible.

Geauga Walkers

Tuesday, December 12th, 12:00 p.m. – 2:45 p.m.

The Rookery, Great Blue Heron Lodge – Active seniors, enjoy a noon hike followed by a potluck lunch at 1:00 p.m. and a naturalist presentation at 2:00 p.m. Call Geauga Senior Center for full schedule, 440-279-2137.

Nature in Music: Weather

Friday, December 15, 7:30-8:30 PM

The West Woods – Explore how weather is portrayed in classical music by composers including Beethoven, Chopin, Strauss and others. An evening of music and “guided listening.” Wheelchair/stroller accessible.

Winter Solstice Celebration (All New!)

Thursday, December 21st, 7:30  p.m. – 9:30 p.m.

The West Woods – Celebrate the longest night of the year in this all-new format as we explore the roots of our modern holiday celebrations indoors and out. Enjoy treats, hot beverages and music by the Pilgrim Brass Choir and make a solstice-themed craft. Enjoy interactive skits highlighting solstice traditions of different civilizations and costumed interpreters. Also, stroll the self-guided “Solstice Traditions Trail,” a magical, candlelit route through the forest. Please dress accordingly. Partially wheelchair/stroller accessible.

Nature Drawing for Kids

Wednesday, December 27th – Ages 8-11: 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. – Ages 12-15: 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.

The West Woods – Looking to improve your drawing skills? We’ll share tips for observing and drawing Nature, and practice sketching and cartooning. Supplies provided. Feel free to bring in a drawing of your own to show, too! Wheelchair/stroller accessible. Registration required.

Grandparents in the Park: Wildlife Wonders

Thursday, December 28th, 2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.

The West Woods – Grandparents and grandchildren, explore Nature indoors with our interactive habitat exhibit and other fun activities for all ages! Please bring a snack to share. Beverages provided. Indoors only. Wheelchair/stroller accessible. Registration required.

Maple Town Tune Traders

Thursday, December 28th, 7:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.

The West Woods – Informal performances followed by jam session. All genres, instruments and skill levels welcome. Come to play, sing or simply enjoy as audience. Snacks to share welcome. Wheelchair/stroller accessible.

Nature Explorers: Carnivore Coroners (Ages 6-7 & 8-11)

Friday, December 29th, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

The West Woods – Young investigators, view scenes in forest and field, searching for clues to identify the carnivorous culprit and determine what happened. Partially wheelchair/stroller accessible. Registration required.
