Geauga Park District Quarterly Events Calendar for June 2018

Junior Naturalist Day Camp (Youth entering grades 5-7) – Monday, June 11th – Friday June 15th, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at The West Woods, Nature Center, Fee: $150

Are you ready to explore and learn how to be a naturalist? If so, sign up for Junior Naturalist Day Camp and an exciting week of exploring streams, lakes and forests for macro-invertebrates, birds, amphibians, reptiles, insects, astronomy and more! Participants begin and end each day at The West Woods Nature Center, then transportation will be provided to other parks for various activities facilitated by highly qualified staff. Schedules, waivers and other details sent at a later date. Camp waiver required for each participant. Bring lunch, water and a raincoat in a backpack each day. Other equipment provided is included in the registration fee. Financial assistance available. Not wheelchair/stroller accessible. Registration required.

West Woods Wednesdays Farm Market – Wednesday, June 13th, 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at The West Woods

Purchase locally made/grown items at The West Woods the second Wednesday of each month this summer, June through September! Wheelchair/stroller accessible.

Veteran’s Appreciation Picnic – Thursday, June 14th, 4:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Claridon Woodlands, Judge Lester Taylor Lodge

Geauga Park District celebrates our veterans on Flag Day with a special picnic to say thank you for serving our country! Veterans and a guest are welcome to enjoy food, live music and this exciting new park. Partially wheelchair/stroller accessible. Registration required.

Fly Fishing Family Day – Saturday, June 16th, 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at Swine Creek Reservation, Lake Side Shelter

Learning to fly fish is fun and easy! Join members of the North Coast Fly Fishers as they teach the basics of fly casting, fly tying and where to look for fish, then try your hand at catching aquatic insects in pond and stream – a great way to kick off a lifetime of angling. Fishing license required if you plan to wet your line. Partially wheelchair/stroller accessible.

Astronomy Night with CVAS – Saturday, June 16th, 8:30 p.m. – 11:30 p.m. at Walter C. Best Wildlife Preserve, Sunset Shelter

Join members of the Chagrin Valley Astronomical Society to celebrate the stars and observe our amazing night sky! A variety of telescopes will be on hand to get a closer look. Cancelled if cloudy; call 440-279-0880 after 3:00 p.m. to check status. Partially wheelchair/stroller accessible.

Father’s Day Milkweed Giveaway – Sunday, June 17th, 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Swine Creek Reservation, Lake Side Shelter

Stop by during listed hours to pick up a free milkweed plant for Dad! Several species of milkweed are grown and distributed for planting in an effort to aid the Monarch Butterfly in its plight of population decline. Beautiful, aromatic milkweed blossoms will attract many other species of pollinators to your yard as well. One pot per family. Wheelchair/stroller accessible.

Almost-Summer Kayak (Ages 12+) – Sunday, June 17th, 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at Bass Lake Preserve

Get a jump on summertime fun with an afternoon of kayaking. Eagles, waterfowl and a variety of other wildlife await our discovery! Dress for the weather; program will be cancelled the day before in the event of forecasted bad weather. Not wheelchair/stroller accessible. Registration required by phone beginning June 10th.

Adventure Day Camp (Teens entering grades 8-10) – Monday, June 18th – Friday, June 22nd, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at The West Woods, Fee: $150

Are you ready for an adventure!? If so, join Geauga Park District’s Adventure Day Camp for an exciting week of trying out the brand new ropes course at Claridon Woodlands plus exploring Nature, archery, biking, kayaking, fishing and sending rockets high into the sky! Participants begin and end each day at The West Woods Nature Center, then transportation will be provided to other parks for various activities facilitated by highly qualified staff. Schedules, waivers and other details sent at a later date. Camp waiver required for each participant. Bring lunch, water and a raincoat in a backpack each day. Other equipment provided is included in the registration fee. Financial assistance available. Not wheelchair/stroller accessible. Registration required.

Geauga Walkers – Tuesday, June 19th, 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. at Frohring Meadows

Explore Outdoors, Exercise, Nature outings, Seniors/grandparents, Join other active seniors on weekly hikes in Geauga County and the surrounding area. Hikes are typically 1 to 1 1/2 miles long and held year-round. A naturalist leads hikes scheduled in Geauga Park District parks. Call Geauga Senior Center for full schedule, 440-279-2137. Toddler Time: Sensing the Summer (Ages 1-2 w/adult) – Wednesday, June 20th, 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at Walter C. Best Wildlife Preserve

Enjoy the start of summer with your little one as we see, smell and touch summertime in the park. Strollers and carriers welcome! Wheelchair/stroller accessible. Registration required.
