Elderberries: Wildlife in Winter

Thursday, January 18th, 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. – The West Woods, Nature Center

Our Senior Days have been re-branded as “Elderberries: Seniors Ripe for Adventure!” In this installment: while we’re cozied up in our homes, there’s high drama going on out there in the woods, wetlands and fields during winter, a struggle for survival against weather, predators and starvation. This is an indoor presentation on ways wildlife contends with winter based on observation and stories written in the snow like pages in a book. Refreshments provided. A collaboration with the Geauga Department on Aging and University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center. Wheelchair/stroller accessible. Registration required.

Learn to Snowshoe

Saturday, January 20th, 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. – The West Woods, Nature Center

Learn the basics of snowshoeing including proper clothing, types of equipment and proper technique. Indoor presentation followed by outdoor instruction and a snowshoe hike. Borrow a pair of ours or bring your own! Ages 8+. Not wheelchair/stroller accessible. Registration required.

Lake Erie Winter Van Trip

Saturday, January 20th, 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. – The West Woods

Discover the wonders of winter – ice formations, snow and hardy winter birds – as we explore the frozen shores of beautiful Lake Erie! Locations will be determined by what is going that week along the shores, but could include Mentor Headlands, Edgewater Park and Neff Road Park. Participants should be able to hike several miles and be prepared for the cold as well as potential strong winds. Please bring a snack and water. Not wheelchair/stroller accessible. Registration required. Nature’s Not to Be Missed.

Timbertots: Wonderful Woodpeckers (Ages 3-5 w/adult)

Join Nora the Explorer in a search for feathered friends and make something to attract them to your yard. Also January 23rd. Partially wheelchair/stroller accessible. Registration required.

Travelogue: The Four Jewels of California

Sunday, January 21st, 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. – The West Woods, Nature Center

Join Bill & Sue Berger as they revisit their travels to four of California’s gems of Nature: Kings Canyon, Sequoia, Yosemite and Death Valley. We’ll explore their beauty, geology and significance to our heritage. Wheelchair/stroller accessible.

Maple Town Tune Traders

Singers and musicians, sign up for a short performance spot followed by a jam session. All musical genres, instruments and musicianship levels welcome. Come to play, sing or simply enjoy as audience. Snacks to share welcome. Wheelchair/stroller accessible.

Scout Day: Wolf Cub Scout Paws on the Path

Join us to work on the Paws on the Path Core Adventure! We’ll work on requirements 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 and take an outdoor winter hike to observe seasonal Nature. Not wheelchair/stroller accessible. Registration required.

Scout Day: Cadette Girl Scouts Night Owl Badge

Uncover mysteries of the world after dark, exploring the night sky to work on the Night Owl Badge! All badge requirements will be covered during the program. Partially wheelchair/stroller accessible. Registration required.

Frozen Fest

Join Geauga Park District for an exciting afternoon of FREE winter fun! Visit  for a complete schedule to include live reindeer; guest appearances by ice princesses, a popular reindeer herder and a winter snowman; snowshoeing; live ice carving and sculptures; snow-themed crafts; face painting; refreshments and much more! No doubt this event will help you enjoy and embrace winter weather and fun in Geauga County. Wheelchair/stroller accessible.

A “blue moon” and partial lunar eclipse at the same time! Join us for an early-morning glimpse of Earth’s shadow darkening its moon. Cancelled if weather conditions are cloudy. Wheelchair/stroller accessible. Nature’s Not to Be Missed.
