The Geauga Soil and Water Conservation District is proud to award full scholarship funding to two Geauga County residents for registration to this summer’s Camp Canopy, taking place June 13-18 at FFA Camp Muskingum in Carrollton, Ohio. Calahan Heiss, recent graduate of Berkshire Jr/Sr High School, and Kenzie Morris, recent graduate of Chardon High School, were each awarded a scholarship to join other high school campers (incoming high school freshman to graduating seniors) from across the state to attend this unique and engaging camp promoting the wise management of Ohio’s forests and natural resources. Originally awarded in 2020, these scholarships were postponed when last year’s program was cancelled due to Covid-19.
At Camp Muskingum, Calahan and Kenzie will participate in many classes including forest ecology, wildlife management, and forest products, plus activities like a team-building adventure course, a night hike, and a tree climbing program. At the end of the camp, students will have a chance to earn college scholarship money through the final exam. The Geauga SWCD Board of Supervisors and staff congratulate Kenzie and Calahan and wish them both a positive, rewarding, and long-awaited camp experience!
