Geauga SWCD Looks Ahead and Awards Camp Canopy Scholarship Recipients!

Geauga SWCD Looks Ahead and Announces Camp Canopy Scholarship Recipients!

Amidst a spring of COVID-19 cancellations, the Geauga Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) looks toward the future, offering hope and an incredible learning opportunity to two Geauga County high school students.  Camp Canopy usually comes to life the second week of June each year at Ohio FFA Camp Muskingum located on Leesville Lake in Carroll County.  Unfortunate yet expected, this summer’s weeklong Camp Canopy was cancelled.  However, Geauga SWCD is proud to award full scholarship funding to two Geauga County residents for registration to the 2021 Camp Canopy, tentatively scheduled for next June 13-18, 2021.

Kenzie Morris from Chardon High School and Calahan Heiss from Berkshire Jr/Sr High School were each awarded a full scholarship to join other high school campers from across the state to attend this unique and engaging camp promoting the wise management of Ohio’s forests and natural resources.

At Camp Canopy, Kenzie and Calahan will participate in many classes including forest ecology, wildlife management, and forest products, plus activities like a team-building adventure course, a night hike, and a tree climbing program.  At the end of the camp, students will also have a chance to earn college scholarship money through the final exam.  Furthermore, both Kenzie and Calahan have strong interests in incorporating forestry management into their careers.  The Geauga SWCD Board of Supervisors and staff congratulate Kenzie and Calahan and wish them both a positive and rewarding camp experience!
