Geauga Theater Actor Challenged in The Westing Game

“This show is fun and funny, and it’s also an opportunity to play along and try to solve the mysteries for yourself. I think people will enjoy having their own theories along the way and then seeing how the story actually plays out!” Cara Battaglia, who plays Dani Hoo in Geauga Lyric Theater Guild’s upcoming The Westing Game, was happy to discuss the play and her unique role. Ms. Battaglia attended Newbury High School, then followed by studying theatre at Hiram College from where she graduated in 2012.

“My role in this show is such a challenge in multiple ways. First, it’s not a role that is much like me. No one would type-cast me as caring more about athletics than education! So,in that regard, it is a challenge for me to find those parts of me that are Dani Hoo and to relate with her. Second, this role was written to be male, and I think my playing it as a female challenges not only me and the cast, but the audience as well because it’s not a personality that is often given to young women.”

The Westing Game play, based on the Newbery award winning novel by Ellen Raskin, adapted by Darian Lindle and directed by Angela Miloro-Hansen, will open at the Geauga Theater on March 14, 2014. This murder mystery is filled with interesting characters, chaos, and comedy and will keep you guessing until the end.

“I think it’s a very well-crafted story, and it’s quite different from anything I’ve acted in before. I am interested to see how the audience responds, particularly whether they will try to figure out the answer as we go along, and when..if they are able to!” states Meg May who plays Judge Ford in the production.

The unsuspecting residents of Sunset Towers are summoned to the reading of a mysterious will, only to find themselves locked in a thrilling game as they must discover who is responsible for killing an eccentric millionaire. Through blizzards, bombings, and unlikely alliances, the game begins. The only people who hold all the clues are one Westing heir and you!
