Get Your Kids Having Fun Outdoors with the Geauga Park District this Spring!

There’s an endless list of things for kids to do and explore outdoors, and Geauga Park District is pleased to present programs proving just how incredible (and fun) Nature can be. Here’s a complete list of this spring’s programs and events directly geared to kids!

Registration is available 24/7 for those programs requiring it at the new Geauga Park District, or during normal business hours at 440-286-9516, which you may also call with questions.

Math in Nature – Monday, April 2nd, 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., The West Woods, Nature Center

Drop in during listed hours for an afternoon of spring-break Nature math! School-aged visitors can try different activity stations exploring math in Nature: learn to crochet a hyperbolic plane, track an earthquake, or try out some space math. Wheelchair/stroller accessible.

Homeschool Days: Amphibian Awakening (Ages 5-7 & 8-12) – Friday, April 6th, 2:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m., The West Woods, Nature Center

Join a naturalist to search for frogs and salamanders that have awakened from hibernation to greet the spring. Through indoor and outdoor discovery, we will uncover the habits, habitats, adaptations and life cycles of these captivating creatures. Adults may attend (need not register) or drop off child with waiver. Mostly outdoors, so please dress for the weather. Not wheelchair/stroller accessible. Registration required.

Timbertots: What’s the Weather? (Ages 3-5 w/adult) – Thursday, April 12th, 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. & 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Frohring Meadows, Katydid Shelter and Saturday, April 14th, 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at Orchard Hills Park, Lodge

Explore the wonderful world of weather with hands-on activities and fun. Some outdoors, weather permitting, so please dress accordingly. Designed for a specified age group; older or younger siblings will not be considered registered participants. Wheelchair/stroller accessible. Registration required.

Astrotots: Reach for the Stars! (Ages 3-5 w/adult) – Friday, April 27th, 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. & 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. and Saturday, April 28th, 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., The West Woods, Nature Center

Come and find out for yourself that stargazing is amazing, learning what stars are, what they do, where they are and what they look like. Partially wheelchair/stroller accessible. Registration required.

Nature Explorers: Amphibian Awakening (Ages 6-7 & 8-11) – Saturday, April 28th, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., The West Woods, Turkey Ridge Shelter

Enjoy a springtime adventure to explore vernal pools and welcome frogs and salamanders coming back to pools where they were born. What amphibians will we discover? Our findings will also be recorded on iNaturalist as we participate in the 2018 City Nature Challenge, a global competition celebrating local biodiversity. Mostly outdoors, so please dress for the weather. Boots recommended for wet ground around vernal pools. Children should be dropped off by 10:00 a.m. and picked up by 12:00 p.m. Not wheelchair/stroller accessible. Registration required.

Timbertots: Flower Fun (Ages 3-5 w/adult) – Thursday, May 3rd, 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. & 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., at Big Creek Park, Deep Woods Shelter and Saturday, May 5th, 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at B Benner Metzenbaum Park, Wisteria Hill Shelter
