Giggles ‘n Stitches 4-H Sewing Club Receives Awards

The attended the Geauga County 4-H Volunteer and Member Recognition banquet on November 9 at the Notre Dame Educational Center. The club members and advisors received awards and recognition for their successful 2013 4-H season.

Nine club members were recognized for representing Geauga County at the Ohio State Fair in August. Club members Sarah Miller, Sheila Roberts, and Graycen Wood were awarded the Outstanding Participation award for their dedication, hard work, and exceptional club involvement this year. Sarah Miller received the Gold Medal award in the category of achievement, and Graycen Wood received the Gold Medal award in the category of clothing, recognizing these two young ladies for their outstanding efforts, achievement, and personal growth of knowledge and skill in those categories. Graycen Wood received the Ambassador of 4-H award, which recognizes members ages 15 to 18 who have led by example, demonstrating the entire “Spirit of 4-H” with his/her focus, knowledge base, healthy living, and community service.

Both of the club’s advisors were recognized for their four years of service. Advisors Beth Ward and Julia Wood received the Clover Key award for their outstanding service and genuine passion toward the 4-H program.

The club was recognized for their participation in Fair Fest and for creating a fair booth at the Great Geauga County Fair this past September. Giggles ‘n Stitches was awarded Honor Club for the third year in a row, recognizing the club’s exceptional achievements. Two club members, Sarah Miller and Graycen Wood, were recognized for their participation in the county’s inaugural Youth Fashion Board, and three members, Sarah Miller, Betsy Sawyer, and Graycen Wood, were recognized for their participation in the county’s Junior Fair Board.

Giggles ‘n Stitches will officially end their 2013 4-H season with a club holiday party to be held in December. They will meet again in February of 2014 to elect officers and select projects, and the club will take a field trip to the Original Sewing and Quilt Expo next March.
