Great Day Child Care Celebrates 15 Years Of Service To Children

Great Day Child Care Learning Center, located at 14810 Madison Road Middlefield, Ohio, is celebrating its 15th year in caring for children from the local and surrounding communities. This center was founded in 1998 to provide the area with a child care service for families working within a convenient distance and to give the local companies an option for their employees.

My wife Carol and I purchased the center seven years ago from our son Gary S. Cox.

Great Day Child Care serves clients throughout Geauga, Trumbull, Ashtabula, Portage and Lake counties, many who live right in Middlefield. We support the Cardinal Schools and are a bus stop during the school year offering before and after school programs. We also provide a full time summer program.

The Geauga County Bookmobile visits our day care on a regular schedule.

The staff and I are actively involved with community events sponsored through the Middlefield Chamber of Commerce and the Village Recreation Department. We are very fortunate to have a vibrant and fun community in Middlefield that benefits not only local residents, but also many that do not live in the village. I am an advocate of supporting local business, and we purchase products and services in the village whenever possible.

We accept children from 6 weeks to 12 years of age and are licensed by the state of Ohio and Job & Family Services for 126 children. Our center is a 6,000 sq ft. building located on 3 1/3 acres with three large playgrounds equipped with modern equipment and plenty of green lawn. The center is staffed at all times with teachers trained and certified in First Aid, CPR, and Communicable Disease. We are open from 5:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Great Day Staff

Great Day has many exceptional people who work here daily to educate, protect, and care for the children. Many of our staff have backgrounds in early childhood education and are continuing their education as well.

  • Danielle Hensley is the director and has provided leadership in this position for 11 years. Danielle has a bachelor degree from Kent State University and a Child Development Associate Credential (CDA).
  • Lucinda Byler has a CDA in infant and toddler care with nine years experience in early childhood education and oversees our school age program.
  • Elaine Schmitt is our preschool teacher and has been in child care for 20 years.
  • Ashley Kocab, a five year teacher, is dedicated to working with our infants and educating toddlers. She began in early childhood education at the Ashtabula County Technical & Career Campus.

Our enrollment grows every year; we recently graduated 19 children from our preschool class to kindergarten.

Great Day Child Care

Great Day provides nutrition and love to our kids every day. We provide breakfast with cereal, fruit, milk, and juice. We also provide two snacks throughout the day. We instruct in all areas of early childhood development from infants to school age using Create Curriculum. We provide computer classes and training for all ages.

I am a Vietnam veteran and very proud to have served in the U.S. Navy. I offer support to active duty members and their children and we are involved in the Wounded Warrior Project. We strive to instill good citizenship and morals in our staff and to the children we watch over every day. I have a simple motto: “When in doubt about what to do, do the right thing regardless of personal pride or financial cost. Do what is best for the child and the parent.” I believe Great Day cares; not only for the children who come to us, but for the whole family involved in that child’s life.

Our future here in Middlefield is on a path of growth and improvement. I believe we have an exceptional community right in the heart of Geauga County. There are many good families living and working here. I will continue to do my part to train and educate our family here at Great Day Child Care in order to offer the best child care service for our parents.

Great Day does care. It is emphasized daily by each of our staff through our four principles: Security, Education, Recreation, and Love.
