The black bear is making a comeback in Geauga!

Lost with the settlement of Ohio’s primeval wilderness, the Black Bear is attempting a comeback in Ohio after a 150-year absence. Discover the “bear facts” about Ohio’s largest mammal through illustrations, tracks, pelts, games and other hands-on activities.

What: Black Bears Returning Home!

When: Sunday, January 12 – 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Where: The West Woods Nature Center
9465 Kinsman Road (Route 87), Russell Township

Visitors to this program can expect Chief Naturalist John Kolar to describe population trends in Ohio, discuss what county led the state in recent bear sightings, dispel popular misconceptions and answer questions about the Black Bear.

“People will also learn what to do if they encounter a bear in the wild,” John said. “It promises to be an educational, eye-opening and inspiring program with opportunities for audience participation.”
