Health Quest 2012

Happy New Year! How many wishes for a happy, healthy, prosperous new year have you received so far? Wishes are wonderful, but unfortunately do not take us to our destinations. And what is your destination for this year? Do you make resolutions? Here is Merriam-Websters first definition of resolution:

Definition of RESOLUTION

1: the act or process of resolving: as

a : the act of analyzing a complex notion into simpler ones

Millions of people across this country will make the resolution to lose weight and get fit. They will start a diet – “a regimen of eating and drinking sparingly so as to reduce one’s weight” (merriam-webster) How lovely does that sound?! Most people are doomed before they start.

Why not change your thinking from what you will take away to what you will add to your health this year? You’re not going on a diet, you’re going on a health quest! Let’s take what has been made into a very complex, tedious chore – ‘dieting – and simplify it. Here are three simple things you can add to your life that will produce significant lasting benefits.

1. ADD 6 to 8 cups of pure water to your day. It’s the best way to flush your system of toxins and keep your energy level up.

2. ADD one large raw vegetable salad to your day. Include any or all of these: romaine, spinach, carrots, broccoli, peppers, apples, raisins, sprouts, walnuts, grated beets, snap peas, or any other raw veggie you like. Go for organic. The slight increase in cost is worth the savings in doctor visits. Say NO to the restriction diet. Say YES to life and health by following these three simple ADDitions to your day

3. ADD 30 minutes of fast walking per day. Take the dog, take a friend, take your music. Walking 12 miles per week at a fast pace will reduce central body fat and the risk for cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and hypertension – even if you don’t change any eating habits! Walking more will produce greater results.

Say NO to the restriction diet. Say YES to life and health by following these three simple ADDitions to your day. If you do, you will make that wish for a healthy New Year a reality!
