You drive past it almost every day on Route 87. It’s almost four years now since it opened. It’s big. Do you wonder what’s inside?
“Habitat for Humanity ReStores are nonprofit home improvement stores and donation centers that sell new and gently used furniture, home accessories, building materials, and appliances to the public at a fraction of the retail price. Habitat for Humanity ReStores are proudly owned and operated by local Habitat for Humanity affiliates, and proceeds are used to build homes, community, and hope locally and around the world.” ~ From Habitat for Humanity International
At 50-75% off retail costs, these perfectly good materials that are sold to the public not only provide the new owners with a great deal, but also support ReStore’s other purpose: building houses for hardworking Geauga County families. ReStore is an affiliate of Habitat International (Habitat for Humanity), but they receive no financial support from the parent organization.
Right now, ReStore is in need of donations!
All donations will go into the store to be sold to the public. “Furniture is our biggest seller and most popular item. Appliances and kitchen cabinet sets sell well also,” says Alex Coates, ReStore Associate. Household goods and knick-knacks are in demand as well. If you have any of the following items, please consider donating them to ReStore. “We pick up items that are too large to fit in a vehicle,” says Alex. They are available at (440) 564-7475 Tuesday-Saturday 9 a.m.to 4 p.m. to schedule a pick up.

Specific items they are in need of include:
- Furniture – Couches, dining room sets, tables, bedroom sets, computer cabinets, dining room chairs (sets of 4, 6, or 8)
- Appliances – Microwaves, ovens, stovetops, refrigerators, washers, dryers (appliances must be in working order)
- Cabinetry – Kitchen and bathroom sets, uppers and lowers
- Household Items – Dishes (full sets only), home decor, knick knacks
Find a full list of accepted items HERE.
Donors can drop items off in the rear of the store Wednesday – Saturday 10 – 3 p.m.
Instead of ending up in a landfill, your donation can be put to good use in someone’s kitchen, living room, bathroom, etc. AND the proceeds go to helping those in need find shelter.
For Shoppers
“We are constantly refreshing our inventory,” says Alex, “so that piece of furniture you desperately wanted that wasn’t for sale Friday morning might be on the floor Saturday afternoon.
Don’t hesitate to ask our staff and volunteers any questions about items for sale or Habitat for Humanity in general. We’ll be wearing white shirts with the Habitat for Humanity logo on the back.”
The ReStore staff is made up of very knowledgeable and friendly volunteers that are retired from careers as carpenters, contractors, painters etc. who are more than happy to answer any questions you might have. And if your purchase is too large to take home that day, it will be held in their warehouse for up to one week.
ReStore is conveniently located in historic Newbury, Ohio near the corner of 44 and 87 where you can also treat yourself to the famous Buckeye Chocolate Company, the local eatery Mangia Mangia, and Punderson State Park. Drop your donation off, pick up a few items for your home, then continue on to more local Geauga County businesses. Make a day out of it!
