The agencies that help support senior citizens and residents in need in Portage County are stepping up to meet the challenge of COVID-19 but they need your help.
Kent Social Services and the Center of Hope, both run by Family and Community Services, are seeking donations to keep the hot meals going and their food pantries in operation.
The centers are looking for the following items to provide carry-out meals and pre-packaged food supplies to senior citizens and vulnerable populations:
- Cash, make checks payable to Kent Social Services or Center of Hope
- Perishable food items
- Non-perishable food items
- Paper plates, bowls, cups, napkins and utensils
Please call the Center of Hope, 330-297-5454, or Kent Social Services, 330-673-6963 or 330-689-9885, to make a delivery of food items or drop off a check. For persons in need of food or groceries and who qualify, here is the operations information for the Center of Hope and Kent Social Services.
At the Center of Hope, managers will be available for any questions or donations from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Staff will be handing out curbside lunches from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., also Monday through Friday. Please make appointments to get pre-packaged food from the food pantry by calling 330-297-5454. The emergency pre-packaged food will be delivered curbside and have ID available.
At Kent Social Services, staff will be handing out curbside lunches from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. There will also be a carry out hot meal delivered curbside on Sundays, 5 p.m.-6 p.m., except for the third Sunday. Pick up of pre-packaged food from the food pantry is Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Please call 330-673-6963 for a food pantry appointment.
