Warming Tree

Elementary school Phys Ed. teacher Mrs. Brodnan has created a Warming Tree at JES!

The tree holds new or gently used, donated hats, scarves, gloves, socks, etc., for students to take if they need something to stay warm during the cold months. Mrs. Brodnan says, “In order for students to have the best school day possible, it is important to meet their basic needs first, from having full tummies to staying warm in the cold! Students should not have to worry about being cold while at recess, or before/after school; which, is why I wanted to start the Warming Tree!”

JES Principal Kelly Bearer says the tree is a welcome addition to the school office. “We always have students who don’t have warm things to wear – they lost them, forgot them, or something else happened to them,” Bearer explains.  “Mrs. Brodnan came up with the idea, cut down the branches from her property, and brought it into the office. I feel very strongly about the pups going outside for recess each day, it’s just better for academics and health, but they need to be warm, so this certainly helps with that!  Besides, it’s cool and the pups love it!”
