Battle for the Paddle, the celebrity ping pong tournament benefitting Boys & Girls Clubs of Cleveland, has been rescheduled for Monday, Dec. 7 so Cleveland Cavaliers players will be able to participate.
The event was originally scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 29, but an earlier-than-expected start of the Cavs practice would have prevented the team’s players from taking part that day. The rescheduled date will allow Cavaliers and Cleveland Browns players to play. “We know several Cavs are looking forward to playing, so we’re happy that we could find a date that will not pose a conflict for any of the participants,” said BGCC president Ron Soeder. “It is great that the Cavs are getting an earlier-than-expected start on what we all hope will be a championship season, and we’re also pleased their players will now be able to play in our benefit event.”
The table tennis tournament will take place at Danny Vegh’s, 6505 Mayfield Road, Mayfield Heights. Last year’s participants included Joe Thomas and Gary Barnidge of the Browns along with Cavs Anderson Varejao, Matthew Dellavedova and Kyrie Irving. The tourney will include seven pro athletes and one amateur – a person who makes a $5,000 donation.
Cost is $150 per person and includes food, drinks, music and the chance to mingle with the players. There will also be a silent auction and valet service. Only 150 tickets will be sold.
You can purchase tickets at www.clevekids.org or by calling (216) 883-2106.
Benefit sponsors are Danny Vegh’s, ESPN Cleveland, Panera Bread, Cedar Creek and Heinen’s Fine Foods.
