Gather your friends and family around a great cause this holiday season – creating more than 350 evergreen decorations for recipients of Geauga County Department on Aging’s home-delivered meals and Chagrin Valley Meals on Wheels!
The West Woods Nature Center provides a perfect setting for this good work on Saturday, December 1st, between 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Now in its fifth festive year, Greens for Giving guarantees a way to brighten a senior’s holiday season by building a thoughtful and completely unique handmade creation from scratch.
To celebrate its five-year anniversary, Geauga Park District Outreach Coordinator Holly Sauder made the decision to add recipients from the Chagrin Valley Meals on Wheels program. The Department on Aging’s clientele has also increased in the past year, Holly said, so she decided to increase the afternoon’s final centerpiece goal by 100, to 350 total.
“In 2017, all 250 planned centerpieces were in production within the first hour,” Holly said. “Not only should this expansion allow more people to participate, but our creations will now also reach a greater number of our neighbors with holiday cheer.”
All supplies – fresh evergreens, decorations and containers – will be provided, but feel free to bring your own hand pruners and additional decorative add-ons if you’d like.
Bob Rogish of Rogish Farms has once again graciously donated all greens for the event; West Geauga’s Class Act a cappella group will return to perform beginning about 1:00 p.m.; and participants may also sign holiday greeting cards to be given to veterans at the Ohio Veteran’s Home and Cleveland VA Hospital.
“With so many more centerpieces to make this year, we hope a steady crowd will really enjoy helping in the effort,” Holly said. “It’s always such a great atmosphere; the holiday joy is palpable. Come share a little of this holiday joy with our senior neighbors, Meals on Wheels recipients and Northeast Ohio’s community of honored veterans!”
The West Woods is fully wheelchair/stroller accessible at 9465 Kinsman Road (Route 87) in Russell Township. Registration is not required to participate in this event – just show up! Please call 440-286-9516 with questions.
