Just for Seniors – The Geauga Park District Offers “Elderberries” Lots to do Outdoors!

Geauga Park District is pleased to unveil its spring repertoire for its free Elderberries: Seniors Ripe for Adventure programming, offering puns and fun, Tai Chi, bird banding, pond dipping, food and community!

Registration is required at 440-286-9516 or www.geaugaparkdistrict.org for Elderberries programming, all co-presented by Geauga Park District, the Geauga Department on Aging and University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center, and partially wheelchair accessible depending on your choice activities.

April Foolery – Thursday, April 25th from 11:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Claridon Woodlands

Take in a short, easy walk with puns and fun as wild plants and animals are represented by objects, making for an entertaining guessing game, followed by a Tai Chi session led by UH Geauga. Light lunch served.

Bird in the Hand – Thursday, May 16th from 9:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. at Big Creek Park, Aspen Grove Shelter

See colorful migratory songbirds close up as they are netted and banded for scientific study. Binoculars available. Short distance bird walks also held. Pancake breakfast included.

Finny Dipping at the Pond – Thursday, June 20th from 9:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. at Swine Creek Reservation

Relive your childhood adventures catching frogs, tadpoles, newts and wildly amazing aquatic insects. Enjoy an informative and entertaining interpretation of the morning’s catch. Pancake breakfast included.

Did you know that park naturalists also lead Geauga Walkers hikes of active seniors year-round, usually a couple Tuesdays a month from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Hikes this season are:

  • April 9th at Big Creek Park’s Deep Woods Shelter
  • April 23rd at Sunnybrook Preserve
  • May 7th at Headwaters Park’s Route 322 Parking Lot
  • May 21st at Swine Creek Reservation’s lodge
  • June 18th at Whitlam Woods. 

Geauga Walkers Summer Picnic will also take place on June 4th at Frohring Meadows, beginning with a hike at noon followed by a potluck picnic at 1:00 p.m. Please bring a dish to share.
