Just for Seniors – Snowshoeing and Maple Sugaring in the Geauga Park District!

Seniors have a new hub in Geauga Park District for fun, activity and fitness through the parks’ new Senior Days series, and opportunities are just getting started in 2017!

Next up, snow is cordially invited to join in Thursday, February 23rd, for senior snowshoeing at The Rookery from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Park snowshoes will be available for FREE use, and instruction will be provided by a naturalist. Registration is required to join us. (And don’t feel the need to skip out if there’s not enough fluffy white stuff – a hike will be just as fun!)

Then in March, discover the secrets of pure “Geauga Gold” – maple syrup – during Senior Day: Seniors in the Sugarbush on Thursday, March 9th, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Swine Creek Reservation. A FREE pancake breakfast will be served in the lodge, followed by a hands-on visit to the sugarbush and sugar house to learn all about the maple sugaring process. Registration is also required for this program, presented in cooperation with the Geauga County Department on Aging and University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center. Activities will be partially wheelchair accessible.

Finally, naturalists lead Geauga Walkers hikes of active seniors through Geauga Park District parks all year-round, usually a couple times a month. Those hikes remaining this spring are: February 28th at Orchard Hills Park, March 14th at Swine Creek Reservation, and March 28th at Walter C. Best Wildlife Preserve. Registration is not required for these hikes; we just ask that you please call 440-279-0880 if the temperature is below 20 to ensure that the hike is still a go.

To register for park programs, please call 440-286-9516 or visit Geauga Park District and select Find a Program/Event.
