Speech and Debate competes in Toledo
The Kenston High School Speech and Debate team traveled to Toledo to compete at the Sylvania Northview and Southview Tournament. In Declamation, Anthony Alandt placed second with Kylee Pierson taking fourth and qualifying for States. Reaching semi-finals were Laura Parsons in United States Extemporaneous Speaking and Micah Greenberg in Humorous Interpretation. Delaney Bochenek had a 4-2 record in Lincoln-Douglas Debate in the preliminary round before losing in the elimination round to last year’s State Champion.
Incoming Kindergarten Parent Meeting
Information Night for incoming Kindergarten parents will be held at Timmons Elementary School on Monday, January 27, at 6:45pm for children entering Kindergarten this August. Children must be five (5) years old on or before September 30, 2020. Information about Kindergarten and the registration process will be shared at this event.
Kindergarten Registration will be held on Tuesday, February 4, from 8-10:30am and 4:30-7 pm at Timmons Elementary School. Please complete your registration online, by February 3rd, and bring supporting documentation with you for copying (school will make copies) and your calendar to sign up for Kindergarten screening.
Amanda Glime has been selected Kenston’s Chagrin Valley Rotary Club Student of the Month in December. She has a 4.556 GPA and has been on the 4.0 High Honor Roll every semester since her freshman year. She is an AP Scholar with Distinction; Excellence in Mathematics award winner; Harvard Book Award honoree; Community Service Cord recipient and Angela Spalsbury Award winner for achieving the highest score for a female on the Challenge of Champions test.
Mandy maintains a rigorous course load; she is committed to extending herself beyond the classroom. She is a four-year varsity letter winner in swimming, qualifying for districts both sophomore and junior year. She is also an active member of the Math Club, Political Action Committee of Kenston (PAAK), Kenston Connect and Principal’s Leadership Council. She is treasurer of National Honor Society and one of the chair people of the Bomber Bash. Mandy is a member of the A Cappella Ensemble “Varsity Jazz” and participated in three Kenston Center Stage musicals.
She works as a lifeguard and enjoys teaching and coaching young swimmers.
Mandy plans to attend a four-year college to major in Biomedical Engineering with a pre-med undergraduate degree.
Geauga County Retired Teachers Association Grant
Thank you to the Geauga County Retired Teachers Association for awarding a $250 grant to Kenston fourth grade teacher, Mrs.Josefina Ventimiglia. The funds will be used to purchase a document camera to be used in her classroom with Oliver Lewis and her other students.
