Kent State University’s College of Education, Health and Human Services Announces Ninth Annual Hall of Fame Winners

Ms. Carol A. Schempp, small business person of the year for Springfield, Illinois 2017, was selected as the 2018 EHHS Centennial Alumni recipient for the Kent State University’s College of Education, Health and Human Services Ninth Annual Hall of Fame Awards.

Carol A. Schempp is a 1965 graduate of Kent State University earning a Bachelor’s degree in Health, Physical Education and Recreation with a minor in Biology. She was a 4-year member of the Kent State University women’s gymnastics team participating in a variety of events – most notably the parallel bars.

She has many years of participation in the Illinois and National Senior Olympics. She has earned over 100 medals – most of them gold. She has won eight special awards for most blue ribbons each year. She has received several awards because of her competitive spirit. They include being chosen as a 2017 Senior Illinoisans Hall of Fame inductee as well as small businessperson of the year for Springfield, Illinois.

As a Senior Olympian, Ms. Schempp prides herself on her commitment to health and promotion of well-being for individuals of any physical ability. She uses her fitness skills to promote safety and wellness among her peers, such as volunteering as lifeguard. Ms. Schempp is an advocate for exercise and encourages others to recognize the importance of a regular fitness regimen at any stage of life. She has three brothers, a husband and two sons and enjoys waterskiing and roller-skating.

The College of EHHS will honor Schempp and six other distinguished alumni, including Dr. Anthony C. Hackney (Distinguished Alumni Award), Dr. Boni Wozolek (Diversity Alumni Award), Dr. Ellen McWilliams-Woods (Alumni Leadership Award), Lt. Gen. (Rtd.) Abdulrahman B. Dambazau Ph.D. (International Alumni Award), Dr. Nicole Caswell (Recent Alumni Award) and Ms. Carol Bersani (Distinguished Service to EHHS Award).

The awards ceremony will take place on Friday, October 26th from 6:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. at the Kent State Hotel and Conference Center. For ticket information, please contact Anne Alfano at 330-672-0108 or aalfano@kent.edu.
