Leah Schmidt promoted to Head of Outreach for GCPL System

Geauga County Public Library (GCPL) is pleased to announce that Leah Schmidt has been promoted to Head of Outreach for the GCPL system, operating out of Middlefield Library and the Bookmobile. In her role, Ms. Schmidt is responsible for developing, recommending and implementing an outreach plan for the library system. She oversees the delivery and circulation of library materials to the public via the Bookmobile, Amish delivery services, homebound and outreach programming. Additionally, she provides direct service on the Bookmobile and manages its budget as well as coordinates participation in community events.

Ms. Schmidt was originally hired at GCPL as a shelver in 2013 before being promoted to a reference position in spring of 2014. Her extensive education and professional background made her a strong candidate for the Head of Outreach position when it became available this month. She holds a Master’s of Library Science and a Doctorate degree in cultural foundations of education, both from Kent State University. She also has an MBA in finance from Youngstown State University and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from The Ohio State University. Additionally, her work as an educator for Kent State, and in community service at the Trumbull Community Action Program (T-CAP) in Warren, Ohio, provides a solid foundation as Head of Outreach.

“Leah comes to us with an impressive depth of education and experience,” says Rachael Hartman, Manager of Middlefield Library. “Her work in the nonprofit sector and in the field of developmental disability and education translates well into the library sector. Plus, having worked at our library on the reference desk and as a shelver makes her familiar with our mission of serving the public and sharing information. We are pleased to welcome Leah in her new role.”

Ms. Schmidt enjoys running 5K races. She lives in Mecca, Ohio with her husband, daughter (when she is home from college), 2 dogs and her adopted feral cats.
