As Valentine’s Day approaches, we often think of feelings that are associated with the heart. It’s fun to show kindness and love for those around us. These things make us “feel good” and bring joy to our lives.

We also need to tend to issues of the heart through health and fitness. Bottom line, our heart is an organ and it needs some TLC! Eating a healthy diet along with regular exercise are two very important ways to achieve that.

You may not realize, but sugar diabetes has become an epidemic in our society.  Namely, adult onset type 2 diabetes. One of the main problems is that we are seeing this disease more and more in our children as well.

The health problems associated with diabetes are immense and include very serious issues for your heart. Some symptoms of type 2 diabetes include fatigue, thirst, hunger, and blurred vision. Two of the main causes of type 2 diabetes are obesity and lack of physical activity. They are responsible for 95% of the cases in the United States according to the CDC.

Stay in good communication with your doctor if you think you are at risk. Remember, it doesn’t have to be expensive or time consuming to put some activity into your day. Enjoy the outdoors and take a brisk walk. You will feel refreshed and your heart will thank you!
