There’s a whole lot to be learned about lichen – which is actually fungus and algae functioning together as one organism.
Register for Geauga Park District’s Lichen Workshop to boost your knowledge of this interesting relationship on Saturday, February 18th, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at The West Woods Nature Center.
Janet Traub and Jim Toppin on the Ohio Moss and Lichen Association are making a special trip to Geauga County just to present to this audience. A two-hour indoor introductory session with samples to view will be followed by a lunch break, then an afternoon field foray in search of examples.
Please bring your bagged lunch and a hand lens if you have one. Specimens and books will be on display, and each participant will receive a free Division of Wildlife field guide, “Common Lichens of Ohio.”
Registration is required for this program at Geauga Park District or 440-286-9516. Activities will be partially wheelchair/stroller accessible. Feel free to call the same number with questions.
