Lions agree: It’s SO good to be back in school

It’s as if the stars aligned just perfectly this week: NDCL resumed in-person classes, the sun shone brightly in mid-January, and, yes, the Browns beat the Steelers in the wild-card playoff game.

For two weeks prior to Christmas and one week after the holidays, all NDCL classes met via live-streaming through Blackboard and Zoom as a precaution against potential exposure to COVID-19 during the holiday season. In-person classes resumed for 660 of our 705 students on Monday.

“I am glad to be back,” said senior Ella Koenig. “I missed my friends so much, plus I’m excited to start this semester because I’m taking interesting electives like Advanced Music Theory, Marketing Principles, and College Composition.”

While Ella, like nearly all of our students, prefers in-person learning, she did appreciate some aspects of live-streamed experience.

“My teachers did a good job of keeping us intrigued in our online classes,” she said. “And at least I was able to see other people—if only through Zoom!”

OFFENSIVE PLAY: Juniors Mallory Sah and Colton Marut sport their Baker Mayfield and Jarvis Landry jerseys on our Browns dress down day on Friday. The NDCL campus was a sea of orange and brown as the Lions got ready to cheer on the Browns for Sunday’s divisional playoff game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

CHARDON IS BROWNS TOWN: Sophomores Caroline Jurevicius and Torryn Slaughter show off their Browns gear and home-team spirit during Friday’s orange-and-brown dress down day, which capped off a great first week of in-person learning after our pandemic pause.

BIG ‘O’ TREATS: The Buckeyes lost, but that didn’t stop senior Jake Severino of our Labre Ministry from sharing donuts decorated with Ohio State’s colors with our friends on Cleveland’s East Side. Even during the pause from in-person classes, we continued our weekly trips with food, clothing, and love.
