Geauga County Public Library is pleased to announce that Lisa Mertel has been promoted to the position of Manager at GCPL’s Geauga West Branch in Chesterland. In her new position, Ms. Mertel will be responsible for managing the daily operations of the building and its 25 employees. Maintaining and growing high-quality programming remains a priority, along with developing a diverse and relevant collection of materials.

In an interesting twist of fate, Ms. Mertel is coming full circle. As a West Geauga high-school student, her first job was as a shelver at this same library. “I loved my job in the library,” she says. “This is a great community and I’m happy to be working here again.” With degrees in English, history and library science from Kent State University, Ms. Mertel brings a solid background of knowledge to the position. She’s worked as a librarian at the Hudson Library & Historical Society and at Hawken School before teaching English in France.

She honed her skills as a librarian at Shaker Heights Public Library and most recently as the Head of Adult Services at Geauga West.

“Lisa has done a fine job in her role as Adult Services Head,” says GCPL Director Ed Worso. “She’s also held duties as co-building manager for the past several months. She’s been proving her abilities to lead a staff and maintain strong community ties.”

The Geauga County Public Library includes four full-service branches in Bainbridge, Chardon, Chesterland (Geauga West) and Middlefield; two library stations housed in schools in Newbury and Thompson; a Mobile Services Department that serves rural areas and community centers; and an administrative center where technical services, computer services, facilities and administrative functions reside. GCPL has more than 750,000 books and ebooks. The collection also contains more than 100,000 audio / video items and 400 research databases available through its website. GCPL is a member of the Clevnet consortium, giving patrons access to more than 12 million items. Learn more about the Geauga County Public Library at the GCPL website, GeaugaLibrary.net.
