The Geauga County Library Foundation recently unveiled a Little Free Library at Geauga County Job and Family Services in honor of Deborah F. O’Connor’s twenty-five years as director of the Geauga County Public Library. Some members of the Foundation Board, as well as Director Craig Swenson and Becky Sedivy of Job and Family Services, were present at the dedication.

Mrs. O’Connor remarked that she is pleased and proud to have a Little Free Library as part of her legacy. The Geauga County Library Foundation believes that placing books in the hands of children and families utilizing Job and Family Services is a fitting tribute to her long-standing commitment to early literacy and reading.

Little Free Libraries are placed in key locations where children and adults can access books that might otherwise be unavailable to them. They are “take a book, leave a book” places where anyone may pick up a book, bring it back later (or not), or contribute another book. JFS Director Craig Swenson said it is gratifying to see so many children gathering around the library choosing books to read.

Doug Chadwick, Executive Director of The Literacy Club, built the structure in the style of a stately library. Mr. Chadwick, a resident of California, has installed several custom built libraries in Northeast Ohio, including the Little Free Library at the Geauga County Safety Center.

The Geauga County Library Foundation is a non-profit organization that supports the Geauga County Public Library.
