Blackbrook Audubon Highlights Great Blue Herons

Nov 20, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Citizen scientists Rob and Peg Bobel will present “The Return of the Great Blues” for Blackbrook Audubon’s program at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 20th at Holden Arboretum. This husband and wife team has been monitoring Great Blue Heron nests in Cuyahoga Valley National Park for over 20 years. They will share a behind-the-scenes look at successes, tragedies, and sometimes hilarious stories about the nesting colony, or heronry, on Bath Road in Ohio’s only national park, Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

The Bobels co-founded the Cuyahoga Valley Trails Council, an all volunteer non-profit organization dedicated to improving the trails within the park. Rob retired as park engineer last year and Peg is a former director of the non-profit friends group for CVNP.

They have co-authored or edited three guides on trails and hiking in Northeast Ohio. Following their presentation will be a ticket auction of nature-related items. This fundraiser helps Blackbrook purchase Audubon Adventures, an environmental education publication, for 3rd – 5th grade students in Geauga and Lake counties.

Created by National Audubon Society, Audubon Adventures comes in classroom kits that correlate to National Language Arts and Science standards.

Holden Arboretum is at 9550 Sperry Road in Kirtland. For more information, visit Blackbrook Audubon Society. Follow Blackbrook Audubon Society on Facebook.
