CELEBRATE THE LONGEST NIGHT – Popular annual event features interactive skits, woodland Solstice Traditions Trail

Let’s make the most out of the longest night of our year at Geauga Park District’s annual Winter Solstice Celebration!
From 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 21, a visit to The West Woods and its nature center will include fun, all-ages exploration of the roots of our modern holiday celebrations. All are welcome and registration is not required this year – just be sure to mark your calendar now so you don’t miss it.
Guests will need to come dressed for time spent indoors and outdoors, as much of the event is outside. Indoors, enjoy treats, hot beverages and festive music performed by the Pilgrim Brass Choir. Children are also invited to try a free solstice luminary craft. Then, outdoors, stroll the self-guided Solstice Traditions Trail, a magical, candlelit route through the forest, complete with a bonfire. Finally, time your visit to the stage area to watch costumed interpreters as they highlight solstice traditions of past civilizations, i.e. the Druids, the origins of mistletoe and more! Interactive skits will be performed every 10 minutes throughout the night, with a detailed schedule posted onsite.
The West Woods is located at 9465 Kinsman Road (Route 87) in Russell Township; only indoor portions will be fully wheelchair/stroller accessible, and no dogs will be admitted. With questions, please call ahead at 440-279-0880. We look forward to celebrating the winter solstice with you.
