Century Village Museum’s Apple Butter Festival
Oct 12, 2013 - Oct 13, 2013
Geauga County Historical Society’s Century Village Museum will host one of the region’s most beloved autumn traditions with the 65th annual Apple Butter Festival October 12-13.
Since 1948, the old-fashioned harvest festival has welcomed visitors to spend the day on the grounds of Century Village with the smell of wood fires and hot apple butter on the breeze and some of the most beautiful fall foliage in Northeast Ohio. This year, the festival will feature demonstrations by historic artisans in the museum’s restored 1800s-era houses and buildings.
The popular Apple Butter Festival is quintessential Americana, with volunteers and visitors taking turns stirring apple butter bubbling in cast-iron kettles and watching giant kites flying overhead in the Museum’s back meadow. Vendors will be on hand selling everything from potpourri and hand-made candles to kettle corn and apple cider. The Crossroads Museum Store will be open for shoppers looking for locally made art and food products. Jars of fresh apple butter, still warm from the kettle, will be available for purchase.
Festival organizers are looking for volunteer apple peelers and stirrers. Anyone interested in helping should contact the Geauga County Historical Society office at 440-834-1492.
