Comets
Nov 8, 2013 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
In 2012, an international team of astronomers discovered a miles-wide chunk of dusty ice on a collision course with the Sun. This Sun-grazing comet, aptly named ISON, will make its closest approach to the Sun in late November. If it holds together, ISON could be the brightest comet in decades. (Or, it could fizzle out and melt!) Join us for an overview of comets, from their mysterious origins to their sometimes-flashy endings. If conditions permit, this program will be followed by outdoor night-sky observations using the Observatory Park telescopes.
