Full Moon Program: The Sturgeon Moon

August’s full moon is known as the Sturgeon Moon, since it was once the season to harvest the Great Lakes sturgeon. Learn about these amazing, ancient fish, then watch the full moon rise over Observatory Park. This month’s full moon also occurs when the moon is at its closest to Earth, making it the biggest-looking moon of 2014 (sometimes called a “super moon”).
