heART of Geauga Arts Jam

Jun 21, 2014 @ 12:00 pm - 10:00 pm

What is Arts Jam?

Artists from across Northeast Ohio will gather in Chardon, Ohio on June 21, 2014 to celebrate creativity and artistic expression in its many forms and while doing so promote local business. Theatrical performances, dance, music, poetry and the visual arts will be featured as part of this day-long event. There will be many opportunities for audience participation, including workshops and demonstrations for participants of all ages, and many family-friendly activities for younger artists.

Alex Bevan

A special performance by singer/songwriter Alex Bevan will highlight the day. Additional performers will include: “object manipulation specialist” Aaron Bonk, Jasmine Dragons acrobatic dance, Laura Lewis clogging, mandolin artist Bill Lestock, Launie McDevitt presenting Zentangle art, Shivering Timbers duo, and more than 50 other performers and performing groups throughout the day.

Many family friendly activities include: juggling, face painting, balloon artists, dance workshops and more! The Arts Jam will culminate at 7:30 p.m. in the historic Geauga Theater, reprising last year’s theme of “The Artist Within.” Former WKSU radio personality and folk music guru Jim Blum will host the evening.

Most events during the day and evening will be free to the public or of nominal charge. Tickets for the evening performance are $8 each and can be obtained at the box office or ahead of the show online.

Joining Artists, Art-Lovers and Local Businesses

A thriving arts community brings numerous benefits to any locale. There are two driving forces for this festival.

First, Chardon and its neighboring communities in Geauga, Lake, and Ashtabula counties have a rich resource in the many talented artists and performers who live and work in the region. Compared to their colleagues in urban areas closer to Cleveland, these artists lack venues and performance opportunities to showcase their talents and benefit from networking with other artists and performers in a collaborative arts environment. Arts Jam brings together both artists and community members in our not-so-urban counties to allow opportunity for the same enriching experience.

The second driving force is economic. Through this festival and other activities throughout the year, we seek to make Chardon a destination for both artists and audiences which will benefit local businesses and merchants and increase Chardon’s participation in the “creative economy.”
