Monarch Butterfly Tagging
Sep 14, 2014 @ 12:30 pm - 4:00 pm
It appears the Monarch species is making small advances this year, with more being seen laying eggs and nectaring throughout the tall grassy fields of Geauga County. Plan to join Geauga Park District in celebrating this news – and maybe seeing some results for yourself – by attending one of its popular annual Monarch Butterfly Tagging programs! CLICK HERE to see photos and read about last year’s event.
What: Monarch Butterfly Tagging
When: Sundays, September 7 & 14, 2014 – 12:30 to 4 p.m.
Where: Swine Creek Reservation in Middlefield Township on September 7
Frohring Meadows in Bainbridge Township on September 14
As usual, tagging programs will include exploration of the fields to net and tag Monarchs on their way to winter havens in Mexico, part of Monarch Watch’s study of this cross-continental migration, and perhaps more important now than ever before, from 1 to 4 p.m.
An introduction about the Monarch’s life cycle and migration will begin at 12:30 p.m.
Participants may also play an exciting “life-sized board game” dramatizing the hazards of this amazing journey. Nets will be provided, but please feel free to bring your own, as well as sun block, a hat and long pants.
