No Strings Attached
Jul 25, 2014 - Jul 27, 2014
Geauga Lyric Theater Guild (GLTG) elementary musical workshop production will be No Strings Attached, a musical adaptation of the Adventures of Pinocchio.
This six week program for youth ages 6-12 is designed to expose students to basic performance skills and concepts, culminating in a live show open to the public, opening July 24.
“I can’t think of a better way to spend my summer, ” exclaims director Julie Douglass, “than helping kids explore and develop their creative talents, nurture their self confidence and watch budding new friendships grow!”
Douglass is joined by a dedicated and energetic staff including: Caelyn Eppler (music director), Diana Frankhauser (director’s assistant), and interns Chloe Porter, Emily Crtalic, Chris Jerme, Mark Isler, Katie Malish, Syndee Raines and Kathryn Molle.
“It is so exciting and rewarding, to see the cast so engaged in the process of putting on an entertaining stage production. They work hard to use the skills they have been taught and eagerly take part in all aspects from costumes, to props and set design, to publicity and program,” remarks Douglass with pride.
Two of the youth involved offered their perspective. William Sinclair, a soon to be 6th grader at Chardon Middle School comments, “I’ve been doing theater ever since I was five years old. I’ve learned things like how to “cheat out,” stage directions and how to be more believable as my character. If theater wasn’t a part of my life, I don’t know what I’d do.”
Another youthful veteran of the local stage, Cara Robbins, age 12, “I have met many new people and made many new friends. We have done a variety of games and activities to help us get more comfortable on stage. I believe that the summer workshops are perfect for young new actors. The production (of Pinocchio) has many funny moments. I know that each and every one involved in the show is having a wonderful time. If I got the chance, I’d do the whole thing over again!”
The students aren’t the only ones learning and having fun. Intern Mark Isler, a 3rd year MFA candidate at Eastern Michigan University in the Applied Drama/Theater for Youth program, states, “I am consistently astounded by these children. They all work so well together, and give nothing but positive feedback and constructive criticism to each other.
They encourage and push each other to get better each day, and show amazing growth and creativity in their character portrayals. The college students I direct and work with could learn a lot from the kids at GLTG.”
No Strings Attached will run July 24 and 25 at 7 pm, and July 26 at 2 pm. All seats are $6.
Tickets or season passes can be purchased through the website or by calling the box office at (440) 286-2255.
