Wildflower walk plans to pack a lot of punch into just a half mile
Enjoy the diversity of colorful spring wildflowers in this mature woods, along with some fascinating wildflower folklore, during a half-mile walk.
What: Spring Wildflower Walk
When: Wednesday, April 30, 2014 – 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Where: Big Creek Park, Deep Woods
9160 Robinson Road, Chardon Township
At less than a quarter mile, the Wildflower Trail we’ll visit offers a diverse array of spring wildflowers of all colors and shapes, including trillium, hepatica, dwarf ginseng, spring beauty, mayapple, Solomon’s seal, Jack-in-the-pulpit and wild ginger, among others.
“We’ll share interesting folklore about the flowers,” said Field Naturalist Judy Bradt-Barnhart, “including unusual pollination mechanisms, historical native American and pioneer uses of them, and name origins.”
No registration is required for this all-ages program, which is not wheelchair/stroller accessible due to some hilly terrain. Call 440-286-9516 with questions.
