Winter Bird Banding Station

Dec 20, 2014 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am

…watch ’em get gently caught in net, banded for research and released

The official 2015 winter finch forecast says that, because the seed crops in Canada are poor this year, Northeast Ohio could see an invasion of more northern feathered friends.

Who knows what will show up at the Swine Creek Lodge feeding station?

Stop by anytime during this naturalist-led experience to see if we’ve netted any of our winter resident birds or more northern visitors.

Birds will be gently mist-netted as we watch, banded and released. This is an excellent photographic opportunity; bring a camera if you’d like close-ups of netted species.

“Here’s hoping for Pine Siskins, Common Redpolls and Purple Finches,” said Naturalist Linda Gilbert. “Oh, and we’d love a White-winged Crossbill or Evening Grosbeak, too!”

School age and older will get the most out of this experience, which is wheelchair/stroller accessible. Reservation is not required. Call 440-286-9516 with questions.
