Chardon, OH – Going back to school can naturally be an exciting, yet stressful time for children and families. However, for those who do not have the supplies to make it through the day, the first day of school tends to be a dreaded disappointment. It’s important for a child’s self-esteem and school success to start the school year off feeling confident and prepared. For this reason, Family Pride of Northeast Ohio, a local nonprofit organization that offers counseling and support services to children and families, teamed up with The Literacy Club, creator of the Little Free Library Movement, to bring much needed school supplies to children and families throughout northeast Ohio.
With a matching donation from the Literacy Club, Family Pride team members purchased backpacks and school supplies for thirty-five children that receive services at the organization. In addition, each child also received brand new books for themselves through the Literacy Club. “Having backpacks and new school supplies makes kids not only prepared for school, but also excited about the first day….it’s one less thing they have to worry about and it gives them a sense of pride…..and besides, who doesn’t love a brand new box of crayons?”, says Clinical Supervisor Sherri Sullivan.
