Join dozens of artists to celebrate the pieces they created for Geauga Park District’s Maple SugART Sap Bucket Invitational!
Opening night for this community art exhibition will be held Friday, January 28, 7 to 9 p.m. at The West Woods Nature Center, featuring more than 50 recycled vintage sap buckets transformed into creative works of art.
The idea to “upcycle” sap buckets, which would otherwise be discarded when Swine Creek Reservation’s maple sugaring operation transitioned to tubing for its sap collection this year, was the brainchild of Special Events Coordinator Teresa Runion. Runion retires from the Park District this month after almost 32 years of service, including almost 18 as special events coordinator.
“We should see lots of decorated and otherwise embellished buckets, as well as some pieces created from deconstructed or repurposed buckets,” she said. “To see artwork cleverly transformed from items that are no longer in use is absolutely gratifying, not only for the artist, but for all who enjoy the resulting creations. I am looking forward to seeing the many entries from our community artists!”
Maple SugART is presented in partnership with the Geauga Arts Council. Opening night guests will also be treated to refreshments and live music performed by Mr. Haney, a five-piece string band from Northeast Ohio playing old-time fiddle tunes guaranteed to get toes tapping and feet dancing.
Busy that night? Maple SugART will remain on display through April 28 at The West Woods Nature Center, which is open daily 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. except January 17 and February 21. Don’t miss this uniquely Geauga County show!
