Maria Dellapina of Burton Receives National Recognition

Maria Dellapina, a resident of Burton in Geauga County and owner of Specs4Us, has recently returned from the annual National Down Syndrome Congress in Denver, CO held in July. 3,000 attended this year, a record for its 41 year history. At the awards banquet, Maria was honored with the prestigious Exceptional Meritorious Service Award. Her 35 year background in optical work along with resolute determination to find something that would accommodate the needs of her daughter Erin who has Down Syndrome, culminated in the creation of her own design which has turned into a thriving international company.

Her love for children and her genuine desire to improve their lives through custom fitted eyewear is well documented by the numerous testimonials she constantly receives from delighted parents of children with Down Syndrome. You can read many of them on her Facebook page.

In addition to this, Maria was also highlighted in Vision Monday Magazine and recognized with the 2013 Most Influential Women in Optical award. She was chosen because…”Despite all odds, Maria would not give up helping her daughter and others like her.” The article is a testament to the boundless effort a mother will put forth to ensure that her child is given every opportunity to flourish in spite of the odds. It’s a wonderful story of love, commitment, and success.
