Meet Ubuntu Wellness — Counseling for Mental, Spiritual and Physical Health

Your mental health is just as important as your physical health. There are many things you can do to enrich your mental health, including therapy, counseling and other holistic health practices. Many believe spirituality, mindfulness and meditation also contribute to your total picture of health.

In the modern medical world, you don’t find many facilities that use interventions to address your physical, emotional and spiritual health. That’s one of the things that makes Ubuntu Wellness so special.

It’s not just licensed counseling — it’s therapy and classes for your mind, body and spirit. Ubuntu offers clinical counseling, massage therapy, Reiki, yoga and much more. Watch the video below and keep reading to learn more about Ubuntu Wellness of Ohio.

What is Ubuntu?

Ubuntu (pronounced Ooo-Boon-Two) means “I Am Who I Am Because Of Who We All Are.” The name finds its origin in an African proverb. The belief is we are all connected to each other, and influencing change through our actions and intentions. By developing authentic kindness, caring and compassion for humanity, you create a better world and a healthier you.

Jennifer Emch and Erin Moore, co-owners of Ubuntu Wellness, took this thinking to heart when creating their wellness practice. Their goal is to help you influence positive change in life with the alignment of your total self through the mind-body connection.

They do this by offering counseling services in conjunction with less traditional therapy options, like art therapy and movement therapy. Ubuntu patients collaborate with their practitioners to create a complete wellness plan. Some of the treatment options available include movement therapy, yoga, massage therapy, counseling, and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. Ubuntu also offers corporate wellness classes and programs for school children.

If you’re feeling mentally stuck, the counseling, mindfulness and therapeutic practices at Ubuntu can help you. Ubuntu Wellness services can clear out the mental blockage created by modern-day life. Along with general counseling, therapists and practitioners at Ubuntu specialize in treating patients dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD.)

The Story of Ubuntu

Erin and Jen founded Ubuntu Wellness, LLC in April 2016. It’s their third year of business and they’re only just getting started.

The two founders met while working as professionally licensed counselors. Jen and Erin both have Masters Degrees in Counseling, with respective degrees in dance therapy and massage therapy. As co-workers at the same non-profit, they both believed they could be doing more for their clients — but there wasn’t enough freedom in the structure of traditional therapy and counseling classes.

By starting Ubuntu, Jen and Erin integrated expressive arts and wellness with clinical counseling. Their all-inclusive approach to healthcare is less medical and sterile. Even their office and patient rooms feel more inviting than a typical counselor’s office.

Unique, Whole Person Approach

Ubuntu Wellness takes a multidisciplinary approach to health and wellness. Instead of just offering one thing, there’s a full engagement of the patient’s senses.

You can start with traditional counseling and apply what you learn about yourself to a dance therapy class. You can try Reiki to cleanse your energy and balance your chakras. Jen, Erin and the Ubuntu team do a great job of making holistic health easy to understand. They work to take the stigma out of alternative medicine and make it less intimidating to newcomers.

Each patient is unique, and so is their treatment. That’s why everyone who goes to Ubuntu is offered a free, 30-minute consultation to develop a complete wellness plan. At Ubuntu, every wellness plan is customized just for you and your needs.

Specialty in Trauma and Mood Disorders

Erin and Jen are also passionate about removing the negative stigmas associated with trauma, depression, anxiety and mental illness. About 70% of American adults experience some form of significant trauma in their lifetime. It could be as mild as a scary encounter with a spider as a child. It could be as severe as a near-death encounter.

All traumatic experiences can have a deeply embedded effect on your emotional well-being. When the results of a traumatic experience aren’t treated, things can only get worse.

If you’ve survived a traumatic incident, you don’t need to be alone dealing with the negative feelings and side-effects of your trauma. With the help of counseling and expressive arts, you can take control of your complete well-being, and give yourself the treatment you need.

Ubuntu Wellness specializes in treating patients dealing with post-traumatic stress-disorder. They can help you create mental space and develop new ways to process the effects of your traumatic experience. Mindfulness therapy, counseling and even yoga are all helpful coping mechanisms for survivors of trauma.
