Are you looking for a wilderness trip but just can’t travel far from home? Limited funds for family outings and vacations? Just want to escape the world for a few hours?
Camp Hi Canoe Livery has the answer! Located in Hiram, just over the border into Portage County, Camp Hi has been offering an outdoor experience on 25 miles of the Cuyahoga River (designated a State Scenic River) since 1966! They are family owned and operated outfitters, committed to helping you enjoy a few relaxing hours on this scenic river with their canoes or kayaks and gear. The river’s average depth is four to five feet with an average current of two miles per hour. Paddlers of all experience levels will find something to enjoy. Choose a one hour micro trip – great for young children – or a long six hour float where you can commune with nature along the reclusive, wooded river route.
“I’ve used several liveries in the area and I have to say, this is my favorite…Miles of wilderness with trees to paddle around and through. Just woods, lily pads, and the backend of a farm every once and a while. The only other people we saw on the river was a group of Amish kids swinging on a rope into the river! Well worth the money! ” A.E. Stow Ohio (Yelp)
H-O-T can hardly describe the weather we’ve been having this summer, so any chance to get out on the water to cool off shouldn’t be passed up. The river is excellent for swimming if you care to take time out on your float for a dip. No need to worry about drought conditions as a dam-controlled release ensures that the Upper Cuyahoga is still plenty deep enough to paddle. So whether you’re fishing, swimming, or just meandering, an ample supply of water will be flowing and a staff of courteous drivers are always on hand to transport you.
Camp Hi is also a great location for group outings and family gatherings. Before or after your canoe or kayak trip, enjoy a picnic on one of the three available pavilions with charcoal grills and a large playing field and volleyball court. There really is no need to leave your back yard in order to experience the outdoors!
“Very laid back and friendly workers, no hassle involved. We were out on the water within 25 min of arriving without a reservation and didn’t see anyone else during the trip on a Saturday. Loved it.” (Google review)
Prices vary by length of trip and number of people, and family and group discounts are offered, up to 40% off.
