Meet Your Merchant ~ Reena Kanner

“I have always loved homes since the time a relative made a doll house for his daughter and electrified it. We thought it was the most amazing thing we ever saw and loved playing with it. I always wanted one, but coming from a large family…..”

Reena-Kanner-CRS-ABR-SRES-001That was the beginning for Reena who has since gone on to become a leader in her profession of 24 years now. “I was a full time volunteer for an organization for 17 years, saw an ad in the paper asking questions: Do you like people, do you have organizational skills, do you like homes??? I interviewed, took all my classes and became a REALTOR,” says Reena. She is still going strong and continues to stay current through advanced education classes, always adding to the many designations already achieved along the way.

Reena thoroughly enjoys helping sellers and buyers bring their thoughts into reality. She has found a home with Keller Williams Realty Greater Cleveland  whose “Win, Win – we must all win or we all lose” philosophy has earned them first place in the Plain Dealer’s 2011 and 2012 list of Top Workplaces of companies with over 500 employees. “I joined them almost seven years ago, and if they were in this area when I started, I would have joined then and never left.”

Reena has worked with all kinds of people and homes over the years. “No two buyers, sellers, or homes are alike. I need to listen and help them, my client, make their own choices, sitting down in the very beginning and explaining the whole process, and forms,” says Reena. “Purchasing or selling a home can be stressful when the time comes for paper work. This way, they have an idea what it entails and are not as emotional. Being honest, diligent, really caring, and listening-not scripted,” are what Reena strives to be.

Reena covers all of Northeast Ohio but if she does not know the area, “I will refer the client. It is not fair to show a buyer an area that you cannot explain; the schools, shopping, entertainment, parks,….” she says. It’s nice to know you can trust a realtor to that extent!

A couple of memorable stories about clients popped out for Reena. “I remember taking a couple into a home that was the right fit. I could see her visualize the children running around and the bread she loved to bake in the oven. As SHE was pointing out features, I could smell the bread baking. They purchased that day.” She continues, “A relocation gentleman was previewing the homes and narrowing down the selection for his wife’s buying trip. He explained (after viewing many homes), he would buy any home that did not have candles and potpourri. We entered a home that had a definite aroma of bacon. I heard (later) the sellers had just had a quick supper of BLT. They bought the home.”

Reena is very active in many noprofit and community organizations, including Chesterland Rotary, and the Chesterland Chamber of Commerce (secretary), the WG Communication Committee, and Business Referral Network of Northeast Ohio (as President). She is also a supporter of Cleveland Ohio Honor Flight. She likes to travel, read, garden, and attend Browns, Indians, and Captain games, and enjoys the wonderful productions at Playhouse Square.

“We raised four children, three are still in the area, and now have five grandchildren and three great granddaughters. What a delight they are.”

And what about those doll houses? Is it over? “Now I have many, and room boxes. Since that time, I also have purchased, and had given to me, a doll house from the 1940s-1950s, nonelectrical, of course. Most of my big houses are unfinished, but that is on my list to do when I retire, someday. When I have time, I browse at the Miniature Cellar (located in Chesterland), and then dream about finishing one of them.”
