Historic Chardon Square is the perfect location for a ladies accessories shop. The new Carriage Trade Boutique is located in a beautiful building at the north end of the Square which is within walking distance of Rosepointe Cottage Tea Room. Mariann Goodwin, owner of both businesses, designed it that way.
“Opening a ladies accessories boutique has been a thought for a while now. Chardon has a wonderful atmosphere that lends itself to a great “day out” for women. Many of my Tea Room customers come from quite a distance to have lunch and are looking for more shopping opportunities before they head back home.”
Did someone say lunch? If you aren’t familiar with Mariann’s Tea Room, now is the time to acquaint yourself! “We were voted best Tea Room in Northeast Ohio two years in a row by Fox 8 Hotlist,” boasts Mariann. They were also featured in the book, A Taste of Ohio History by Debbie Nunley and Karen Jane Elliott. The Tea Room is located in one of the oldest homes right off the Square, built in 1839. And now with the addition of the boutique, you have a full afternoon of food and shopping awaiting you.
Rosepointe Cottage Tea Room celebrated its12th year in business this past May and serves a full lunch menu and afternoon tea. They are known for their great food and good service. All food is made in house and from scratch, with one or two exceptions. The scones are well loved as are the great tea selections and quiche. Select from 30 items on the lunch menu, including chilled soups, sandwiches, and fresh salads for these hot days, or enjoy an elegant afternoon tea – iced teas to be sure! Teas are available any time, both hot or cold, and would go nicely with one of their many delectable pastries. After lunch, start your shopping excursion right there in the entire upstairs of the tea room! You’ll find a unique selection of fine gifts, antiques, and personal items, along with a wide variety of gift items for babies and small children.
It has been a long time since Chardon has had a shop like The Carriage Trade Boutique, your next stop for the afternoon. What a convenient spot for local ladies to be able to find something for themselves or to buy a gift without having to drive out of town. The boutique will be carrying lovely jewelry, beautiful handbags, hats, scarves, sweaters, a bit of outer-wear, and some clothing. One of a kind jewelry from a local jewelry designer and unique items for the home will also be available. Coming this fall will be Vera Bradley handbags and accessories! It will be the only local store to carry the national brand in Geauga County!
The Carriage Trade Boutique, which just opened this spring, was named with Chardon’s Bicentennial in mind. The term was used to describe the people shopping in the downtown area.
My hope is that the boutique is just the beginning of the opportunity for retail growth on historic Chardon Square,” says Mariann who has been a member of the Chardon Square Association since opening the Tea Room, and a member of Chardon Tomorrow. “Seeing the potential for positive growth is very important for the future of our historic district. Chardon Square has been a great place to do business.”
Be sure to add both Rosepointe Cottage Tea Room and The Carriage Trade Boutique to your next visit to Chardon Square!
Visiting our 43rd tearoom, my mother and I experienced afternoon tea. The sandwiches, scones, and desserts were fantastic. The tea selection was extensive. Mariann and staff made us feel so welcome, wish we lived closer so we could visit more!!!” ~ Rated 5-star by Pat 4/14/12
