Messiah Choir Returns to Benefit Food Pantries

Muson – The Good Tiding Benefit Choir invites you to listen for a cause. This all volunteer ecumenical choir formed 26 years ago to help the local food banks through the work of the Geauga Hunger Task Force (GHTF).

The Choir will continue their legacy of raising spirits and funds by performing the Easter sections of GF Handel’s “Messiah”. The two performances of this timeless Oratorio will be March 21 at 7 pm and March 22 at 3 pm at Notre Dame Chapel, 13000 Auburn Road in Munson. There is no charge or need for reservations for the performances, but a goodwill offering will be taken.

“We mimic the composer G. F. Handel who used this same music to raise funds for the needy in his lifetime. He built orphanages, hospitals and helped the poor with concerts in the cities of Europe,” said Sue Juhasz, Project Coordinator. “Although it is sad that we are seeing such large increases in need, it is wonderful that this area continues to produce a talented and committed group ready to help their community.”

The choir is under the direction of Robert Boles and accompanied by Joy Leirer. The fine soloists this season will be Robert Boles, Laura Christian, Nina Eglit, Sara Hamrick, Colleen Juhasz, Sylvia Jurcak, Brenda Moosbrugger, Charles Moosbrugger, Kathy Muzik and Aubrey Woods. The attendees will also be invited to join in the Hallelujah chorus.

The Geauga Hunger Task force is a volunteer organization whose mission is to ensure that no resident of Geauga County goes hungry. This is accomplished by seven food pantries located throughout the county that provide emergency food. The Task Force is supported by Harvest for Hunger and food and monetary donations from the community.

Starting In 2013, the GHTF received a 90% cut from the Cleveland Foodbank’s Harvest for Hunger distribution, as the Cleveland Foodbank is now allocating based upon usage, not where money is raised. Last year, the GHTF served over 13,000 people in need; a 29% increase over 2013 through many local efforts such as this Benefit. Please consider attending this wonderful event and extending your neighbors a loving hand. See us also on Facebook at Geauga Hunger Task Force.
