Middle School Students Take Marshmallow Challenge

Marshmallow ChallengeSixth, seventh, and eighth grade students participating in Future City (a STEM program designed to expose students to engineering) recently took the Marshmallow Challenge in Mr. Spence’s class!

Students were divided into groups of three to four and were given one marshmallow, a yard of string, a yard of tape, and 20 pieces of uncooked spaghetti. Students then had 20 minutes to use those materials to build a freestanding tower. The tallest tower at the end of 20 minutes wins!

“This activity really helps students with their planning, design and teamwork skills – all of which are useful when you’re participating in a group like Future City,” says teacher Shaun Spence.
