“Strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value.” ~Albert Einstein
The Middlefield Banking Company (MB) has been a leader in delivering quality personal financial service to its communities for almost 113 years. Many of your parents, grandparents, and even great grandparents have all played a part in this century plus legacy located in the heart of Geauga County. Several expansions have occurred over the years, including branches added in the surrounding counties of Portage and Trumbull.
And now, 2014 has brought yet another growth spurt for the company, adding more offices to Ohio’s central region.
The Middlefield Banking Company is proud to announce it has added two new branches to its service area. On January 21, 2014, Dublin, Ohio and Westerville, Ohio were added to the locations served by its Community Bank. Both offices are in the suburban Columbus area, Franklin County.
Back in 2007, Middlefield Banc Corp., holding company of The Middlefield Banking Company, bought Emerald Bank in Dublin, then in 2008 purchased the branch in Westerville, which provided exposure in the northern Central Ohio market.
“We weren’t really looking to go there,” says Tom Caldwell, President and CEO of The Middlefield Banking Co., “but an opportunity was presented. One office bank was for sale, and when we started to look, we realized Central Ohio was a vibrant, growing market with future growth opportunity.”
All of the original staff who were employed at that time were retained, and over the last several years, MB has added to that number.
Since the time Emerald Bank was purchased in 2007, MB has always provided the back office support. “Because we were two separate banks, we were subject to two separate examinations and two separate audits. By combining, we’ve eliminated a lot of duplicated efforts and streamlined operations,” shares Tom.
Finally, on January 20, 2014, they collapsed the Emerald Bank charter and combined it into MB. “Now we are just one bank; The Middlefield Banking Company with eight branches in Northeast Ohio and two in Central Ohio.”
More to Come?
Middlefield Bank continues to look into areas located in Central Ohio that could use a bank which provides the personalized service MB offers, but not forgetting the northeast region. They believe there is room for expansion here as well.
“For now, the collapse of Emerald Bank with Middlefield Bank signifies a commitment from us to grow the Central Ohio market. We’re very excited about the opportunities that both the northeast and central markets offer us,” says Tom.
The Middlefield Banking Company looks forward to extending its reach into the Franklin County area and has every confidence that customers there will find out what customers here have known for years:
