Is the department store Santa the real thing? Or, is he just a kindly, confused gentleman who calls himself Kris Kringle? A little girl wants to believe in his magic, and this Santa challenges her mother’s cynical convictions. Miracle on 34th Street, presented by Geauga Lyric Theater Guild and directed by Patty Osredkar, will open December 6 on the Geauga Theater stage in Chardon.
This play, based on a story by Valentine Davies, closely follows the 1947 classic movie version. “It’s one of those timeless classics that doesn’t really get old. Things have certainly changed since 1947, but stories like this also show how much things have stayed the same,” stated Mark Miloro, who plays Dr. Pierce. “If you look at popular Christmas movies of today, they often relate to the same yearning to believe and to maintain childhood innocence.”
Cara Robbins, the 6th grader who plays Susan Walker (the girl who wishes to believe) said, “I think that audience members will enjoy all of the scenes filled with love and compassion, and most important, filled with the Christmas spirit.”
Miracle on 34th Street, sponsored by Chardon Smile Center and produced in association with Dramatic Publishing Co. of Woodstock, Illinois, will run December 6 through the 22nd.
The historic Geauga Theater is located on beautiful Chardon Square at 101 Water Street, Chardon, Ohio.
