Our Teacher Team ended up winning the tournament! Thanks to all who participated and supported the event.

S.T.E.M. Club at Burton Elementary

STEM

The 6th grade students at Burton Elementary now have a club after school where they can participate in hands-on activities using skills from all the S.T.E.M. topics (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). The club began in February, and meets every other week to engage in different projects each week. The students are also involved in a long-term project to build a model home complete with electrical wiring for lighting and also passive solar heating. The homes are currently under construction, and our next meeting will complete the outside structures and begin the roof construction and assembly.

This project has the students assisting with pre-drilling and nailing studs together in a frame. 6 teams of students must work together to get the job done. After the passive solar heating systems are in place, they will do the wiring, connect lighting, and work on the interior floor plans to complete their models! There have been several wonderful adults who have graciously donated their time to assist with our long term project to build and run drills. Mr. Brent Gardner co-leads this club with Amy Hochschild. Mr. Brigham, Mr. and Mrs. O’Conner, Mr. Ford, Mr. Galdun, Mr. Zurbach, and Mr. Myers are also supporting efforts of the club.
