MUSICAL SHOWCASE – Perform and enjoy tunes of all kinds with great folks

For 15 years now, Geauga Park District’s Maple Town Tune Traders have shared a variety of music at The West Woods Nature Center the fourth Thursday of each month.

Today’s Tune Traders are a fine showcase of music – blues, country, classical, vintage pop, Celtic, traditional and modern folk music, and even a bit of rock – with participants playing, singing or simply enjoying as audience. All genres, instruments and skill levels are welcome. A piano is also provided.

This spring’s scheduled sessions are April 28, May 26 and June 23, if you’d like to register to participate as a musician or audience member at www.geaugaparkdistrict.org or 440-286-9516. Short “open mic” performances are held 7 to 8:30 p.m. each evening, with first-come-first-served sign-ups, followed by a round-robin jam session till 9:30 p.m.

For novice musicians, this format also provides great chances to watch and learn, play along and hone skills with a supportive audience as you work up to a more polished level. And for student musicians preparing for an upcoming recital or performance, Tune Traders provides a gentle, encouraging audience, with applause and praise guaranteed from people who celebrate young musicianship.

Audience members, meanwhile, just enjoy a relaxing evening of well-rendered music. Admission is free, the setting is informal, the chairs are comfortable, snacks (contributions welcome) are delicious, and humor abounds.

The West Woods Nature Center is located at 9465 Kinsman Road (Route 87) in Russell Township. For more information, contact the Tune Traders’ naturalist host, Denise Wolfe, at dwolfe@geaugaparkdistrict.org or 440-226-2877.
